Public Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Permit Renewals for Heritage Thermal Services in East Liverpool
Ohio EPA will hold an Aug. 10, 2017, public meeting concerning two proposed permit renewals for Heritage Thermal Services (HTS) in East Liverpool. The public information session and hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at the Westgate Middle School Complex Auditorium, 810 West 8th Street, East Liverpool.
Ohio EPA has issued draft hazardous waste and air permits for HTS’s hazardous waste treatment and storage facility located at 1250 Saint George Street. If issued final, the permits would allow HTS to continue storing, treating and incinerating hazardous wastes from off-site generators.
Copies of the draft permits and related materials are available online at http://epa.ohio.gov/pic/respond.aspx. Copies also are available at the Carnegie Public Library, 219 East Fourth Street, East Liverpool, and Ohio EPA’s Northeast District Office in Twinsburg by first calling (330) 963-1200.
Comments concerning the draft permits may be presented at the public hearing or submitted in writing to: Ohio EPA-DAPC, Attn: Tim Fischer, 2110 E. Aurora Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087. Comments also may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. The public comment period ends Aug. 18, 2017.
Following consideration of public comments, Ohio EPA will make a final decision on the permits.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
