Ohio Lake Erie Commission Meeting to Review Grant Applications
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission Grants Committee will meet on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. to review current Lake Erie Protection Fund grant cycle applications. The meeting will be held at The Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, 352 West Dodridge St., Columbus.
All OLEC meetings are open to the public. More information about Lake Erie Protection Fund grants is available online.
Lake Erie Protection Fund grant awards will be approved by the commission at its next quarterly meeting scheduled for June 12.
OLEC oversees Ohio’s Lake Erie Protection Fund, a grant program for projects that benefit the Lake Erie watershed economically and environmentally. This fund is supported by Ohioans who purchase a Lake Erie license plate displaying the Marblehead Lighthouse, Toledo Harbor Lighthouse or the Lake Erie preserver and other donations.
OLEC was established for the purpose of preserving Lake Erie's natural resources, protecting the quality of its waters and ecosystem and promoting economic development in the region. The director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA) serves as the commission's chairman. Additional members include the directors of the state departments of Transportation, Health, Development Services, Agriculture, Natural Resources and five additional members appointed by the governor.
