Ohio EPA to Hold Hearing about Wastewater Discharge Permit Request For Water Treatment Plant in Washington Co.
Ohio EPA will hold a public hearing on June 11, 2012, to accept comments about the Putnam Community Water Corporation’s wastewater discharge permit application associated with its water treatment plant.
The information session and public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. at the Devola Volunteer Fire Dept., 1286 Masonic Park Rd., Marietta. Ohio EPA places a high priority on public involvement and encourages citizens to become involved in the decision-making process. During the information session, Ohio EPA will explain the proposed project and answer questions about it. During the hearing, the public can submit comments for the record that will be considered before Ohio EPA issues or denies a draft permit.
The corporation plans to add a new reverse osmosis water treatment system to the existing water treatment plant at 920 River Rd. in Devola. The wastewater discharge permit is needed for the discharge of the reverse osmosis reject water discharge to the Muskingum River. The wastewater discharge permit would limit the discharge to meet all applicable water quality standards.
Water would continue to be drawn from ground water wells. The corporation is proposing this project as its preferred option to address elevated nitrate
levels previously investigated
by Ohio EPA and meet federal safe drinking water standards.
In addition to oral comments provided at the June 11 meeting, Ohio EPA will equally consider written comments received through June 18, 2012. Written comments can be emailed to email@example.com
or mailed to Ohio EPA, Division of Surface Water, Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, OH 43216-1049.
The permit application and related documents are available for review at Ohio EPA’s Division of Surface Water (50 W. Town St., Suite 700, Columbus, OH 43215) by first calling the Central Office at (614) 644-2001 or Southeast District Office at (740) 385-8501. Interested parties also may write to Ohio EPA’s Southeast District Office at 2195 Front St., Logan, OH 43138 for more information.
