After sloping the riverbank to the appropriate grade, Tab Construction places stone slope protection along the left descending bank of the Licking River. (Note the gray aluminum dross piles in the background.)
7/15/08 - Top soil and silt fencing have been installed.
7/7/08 - The Licking River bank stone placement is nearly complete. Remaining work includes placement of top soil, silt fencing and vegetation. USACE prepares to place stone at the base of the east bank of Shawnee Run to prevent erosion into the dross piles.
4/24/08 - Tab Construction removes the top of the dross piles to begin sloping the riverbank to the appropriate grade before the placement of stone.
4/7/08 - Workers in personal protective equipment apply “dirt glue” to dross piles for dust suppression.
Shawnee Run Stabilization Project
Since the primary project was completed for less than $2.3 million - an estimated savings of approximately 20 percent - the Agency and USACE decided to embark upon a second stabilization project to benefit the Licking River. They rebuilt a bank along nearby Shawnee Run, which had also been eroding into the aluminum dross and other waste behind the former Newark Processing site.
