Ohio Environmental Education Fund
The Ohio Environmental Education Fund (OEEF) was created by House Bill 804 in 1990. Through this bill, half of all penalties collected by Ohio EPA air and water pollution control programs, as well as gifts, grants, and contributions, fund the OEEF. Grants are awarded to educators, environmental organizations, industrial organizations and others to increase the awareness and understanding all Ohioans need to work together to solve the complex environmental problems affecting our lives and the lives of future Ohioans.
For more information about the OEEF and available grants, go to: http://www.epa.state.oh.us/oeef/
Projects and activities
The Office of Environmental Education has some great ideas for things you and your students can do to help the environment.
The office also maintains a calendar of Environmental Education activities and conferences being held throughout the state.
Ohio EPA's Teacher's Kit has lots of good information including links to helpful publications and project ideas. You may also want to look at our student section to see what we are recommending for your students. The page includes a list of books for children and some links to cool kid-friendly Web sites about the environment.

State Science Day
For more than 50 years--and now with more than 35,000 alumni--State Science Day is the premiere science project showcase for Ohio students in grades 7-12. Drawing from more than 30,000 students at more than 1,000 local school science days or science fairs, students are evaluated on their scientific research and communication skills, and compete for more than 100 different scholarships and awards valued at more than $350,000. Both individual and team student research projects are recognized. Ohio EPA's Environmental Education Fund is a primary sponsor of this event. Visit the Ohio Academy of Science Web site for more information.
Environmental scholarships for college students
The Ohio Environmental Education Fund and the Ohio Academy of Science offer scholarships to Ohio students admitted to State and private colleges and universities who can demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to careers in environmental sciences or environmental engineering programs. These merit-based, non-renewable scholarships are $1,250 for students in two-year programs and $2,500 for four-year and five-year programs.
During the first three years of this pilot project, 53 students at 25 institutions received scholarships. The future of this scholarship program is currently being evaluated.
