Air National Guard P2 Team Award for 179th AW
179th Airlift Wing won the Air National Guard Pollution Prevention Team Award for its outstanding efforts 2000 through 2002. Noted achievements include:
- Eliminating solvent use in 5 of 8 maintenance shops and installing new units that reuse the solvent
- Installing ultra-sonic cleaner in CATM, which will nearly eliminate all hazardous waste generation
- Being the first DoD facility to have permitted CWA and RCRA exempt wastewater treatment system to treat C-130 compressor wash water and aqueous parts washer; treatment system conserves water and drastically reduces hazardous waste generation; 179AW will serve as model for other DoD facilities
- Reducing the quantity of waste is identified as 179AW Strategic Plan objectiveand is tracked monthly
- Continually working to identify new and innovative opportunities for waste reduction and recycling; this collaborative and team approach has enabled the unit to achieve many successes
- Installing 6k gal AST for deicing fluid, nearly eliminating all drum storage and reducing risk of spills
- Developing site specific Affirmative Procurement Program and provideing training to its personnel
- Installing new consolidated bead blast /paint spray booth, recycling 100% of all media generated
- Reducing the use of Glycol with a new deicing hanger with infrared heat
