Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base Gets National Recognition!

On March 19th, 2003, the 121st ARW will receive the Air National Guard Pollution Prevention Award. The award will be presented in the Grand Hotel in Biloxi, MS. This national award is representative of accomplishments occurring in 2000 through 2002 to include 26 pollution prevention initiatives. Base personnel have demonstrated proactive efforts to comply with base environmental programs in order to achieve the common goal of pollution reduction. The 121st ARW will be recognized for an aggressive waste minimization program and re-use program in which over 15,000 lbs of hazardous material was re-used, donated or sold saving over $15,000 in disposal cost. Full implementation of the Base Hazardous Material Pharmacy program reduced purchases of ozone depleting chemicals, maintained a free issue area and received a positive finding in the 2001 ESOCAMP. Enhancing pollution prevention awareness is an important task to the Base Environmental Office. Training for installation personnel is provided on an annual basis. Training information may be found on the base environmental website. This website also contains Affirmative Procurement requirements and environmentally preferred products to enhance awareness as well as a link to the Ohio EPA Pollution Prevention Partnership in which the 121st ARW is a member. Congratulations are in order to the 121st ARW for a job well done!
