1. Developing Methods to Recycle Hazardous Chemicals in Industrial Processes
Implemented a closed loop recycling process for absorbent (used Hydraulic, used oil, used antifreeze, used toluene, used diesel, used JP-8 and used gasoline) by dry cleaning / laundering off the contaminates which are burned off as energy recovery and the clean absorbent are reutilized.
Recycling absorbents program will provide a $5,500 savings in hazardous waste disposal and eliminate 62% of the SAP sites.
Eliminated 900 lbs of media blast (D007) from HW stream that are made into table tops.
Eliminated 30 lbs of contaminated Tyvek suits with (D006) by switching to cotton coveralls which are sent to a licensed laundry company for cleaning and reutilizing.
2. Improving Office, Work Area, Curbside Recycling, Purchasing Recycled Content and Enhancing Awareness
Provide personal office shredders to promote "table top recycling".
The recycling program has increased its revenue by 32% from $4,330.73 in 1999 to $6,707.63 in 2000.
Increasing recycling from nine materials in 1999 to eleven in 2000 which are office paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, food grease, expended brass, batteries, fluorescent lamps, toner cartridges, plastic, glass, ceiling tiles and used petroleum absorbent.
Established a 99% increase in glass and plastic recycling from 30 lbs to 27,000 lbs by revising the Recycling Program Wing Instruction to allow employees to recycle household materials on base.
Established a toner recycling program that recycled 525 lbs for a $63.00 profit.
As an outreach program, 100 cartoon recycling coloring books were donated to My Brother Keepers - a non profit organization which provides assistance to the growing Semolina community.
Conducted base wide training on Recycling which has a 80% class attendance quota.
Eradicated a $4,609.93 invoice from improper billing directed towards the recycling program.
Provided a financial revenue for Safety to purchase first aid supplies from the recycling program.
The weekly curbside paper pick-up with the 10 other agencies increased its weekly curbside paper and cardboard pick-up by 70% from 59,345 lbs in 1999 to 200,562 lbs in 2000 by encouraging desk top recycling.
Increased aluminum cans recycling in the work area by 60% from 539 lbs in 1999 to 1372 lbs in 2000 by placing collection points bear beverage machines.
Eliminated all purchases of Class 1 ODC's.
Researched and endorsed biodegradable substitutes for hazardous materials that are corrosive or flammable.
Produced a 50% reduction in HAP's from the substitutions and eliminations of Class 1, Class 2 and EPA 17's.
Produced a 43% reduction in VOC from the substitutions and eliminations of Class 1, Class 2 and EPA 17's.
Provided technical assistance on Crystal Reports to the 39th Incirlik Air Force Base.
The Recycling Material Data base recovered $1210.34 of unrecorded or misquoted RRR shipments.
Passed the 1999 State Recycling audit with 0 deficiencies compared to 6 in the previous year.
By the development of a new incinerator log and on the spot training to the SP, this produced a 65% reduction in Criteria Pollutant Emission by controlling and identifying which items can be incinerated.
Passed the 1999 State Recycling audit with "0" deficiencies. "You have a solid program." - Adjutant General's State Auditor.
Provided LG a purchase savings of $4233.60 and HW disposal savings of $677.60 by utilizing liners instead of metal drums.
