Thanks to the Ohio Environmental Education Grant, the classes and exams will be offered locally and it will be more cost effective for storm water managers to distinguishing themselves as certified, qualified professionals. In turn, this will make it easier for both the regulators and the regulated community to identify and employ qualified inspection and engineering staff to observe and report the adequacy of erosion and sediment controls and storm water management for construction, industrial, and municipal operations.

The classes are described briefly below, for more information about the classes, go to http://www.cpesc.net/

CESSWI certification is intended for those planning to conduct inspections and document compliance and non-compliance issues. This would include municipal inspectors who are checking for compliance with approved storm water pollution prevention plans (SWP3s).

CPESC certification is intended for those planning to develop and review permits as well as design, review, install and inspect E&SCH and drainage plans. Other activities may include assisting regulators, writing handbooks, and educating the public. This would include engineering and outreach staff.

CPSWQ certification is intended for those planning to develop and review NPDES permit applications, design and review SWPPP, and install and inspect storm water management practices. This would include inspectors checking for compliance with SWP3s.

The Great Lakes Chapter International Erosion Control Association is sponsoring these exam review classes and exams in cooperation with Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District, Great Lakes Environmental Finance Center at Cleveland State University, Natural Resources Conservation Service of USDA, Ohio EPA, and Summit Soil and Water Conservation District.
