The Division of Solid and Infectious Waste Management (DSIWM) has combined with the Division of Hazardous Waste Management (DHWM) to form the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM).
The Division of Materials and Waste Management ensures proper handling of wastes and promotes reuse and recycling of materials and waste generated in Ohio. We issue permits to regulate hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities. We also issue permits, licenses and or registrations to regulate solid waste disposal facilities, transfer facilities, composting facilities, scrap tire facilities, construction and demolition disposal landfills, infectious waste disposal facilities. We also oversee state and local planning for long-term solid waste management. We inspect hazardous waste and infectious waste generators and the facilities subject to permits, registrations and licenses.
As we combine the information available from both divisions, we will be developing a new website. Until the new DMWM website is complete, you should continue to use the Division of Solid and Infectious Waste Management and Division of Hazardous Waste Management (DHWM) pages.
The Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) is made up of the Division of Emergency and Remedial Response and the clean-up aspects of the former Division of Hazardous Waste Management (DHWM).
DERR oversees investigation and cleanup of contaminated sites including federal facilities. We respond to and oversee cleanup of emergency releases and spills to the environment. We also provide assistance to companies and communities who clean up and reuse brownfield sites.
