Division of Surface Water Credible Data - Important Reminders

Credible Data is a program that classifies surface water monitoring performed by watershed groups, state agencies, schools, local volunteers and other organizations. Ohio EPA uses the data submitted under the program in ways prescribed by State law.

Important Reminders

Landowner's Permission

All persons engaged in water quality sampling must obtain the permission of landowners before entering private property. Take the time for this important step because any person convicted of criminal trespass is ineligible to participate in Ohio's Credible Data Program under the credible data law.

Any Qualified Data Collector (QDC) overseeing sampling by non-QDCs must confirm those samplers have also not been found guilty of a trespassing violation within the last five years. We recommend having your samplers confirm this in writing.

Collection of Biological Samples

The collection of biological samples (fish, macroinvertebrates, mussels, etc.) may require a scientific collector's permit issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. More information is presented under Application Forms.
