Prevention, Response & Environmental Issues
Ohio EPA hosted the Landfill Fire Conference 2006 this June 10th, 11th, and 12th in North Canton, Bowling Green, and Hamilton, respectively. Presenters from Ohio EPA, health departments, US EPA, California EPA, landfill operators, and fire fighters discussed a variety of topics including: human health and environmental impacts, US EPA emergency resources, causes of landfill fires, detection and investigation techniques, suppression methods, and several case studies of landfill fires. In bringing such a diverse group of people together, much information about fire prevention, planning, and emergency response was exchanged.
Ohio EPA has received a great deal of positive feedback regarding this conference, and due to the high interest in this conference, Ohio EPA hopes to offer this training again in the upcoming winter months. Additionally, a CD of the Landfill Fire Conference 2006 will be available within the next few months. Please keep checking the website for updates on the CD and upcoming training events.
