Division of Solid and Infectious Waste Management
District staff in the Division of Solid and Infectious Waste Management perform the following duties:
- Oversee and provide assistance to solid and infectious waste disposal programs managed by local health departments.
- Review permit applications for new and expanding solid, residual and infectious waste facilities.
- Inspect solid waste landfills, incinerators and transfer facilities; composting facilities; infectious waste treatment facilities, generators and transporters; waste tire facilities; and construction/demolition debris disposal sites.
- Investigate complaints of illegal dumping.
- Review local solid waste management plans and assist counties in implementing the plans.
- Oversee construction of new and expanding solid and infectious waste disposal facilities to ensure compliance with permit requirements.
- Initiate enforcement actions for violations of regulations.
- Review solid waste landfill closure plans.
- Review methane monitoring plans for landfills.
- Provide technical assistance to the regulated community and the public.
