Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization Radiological Safety Program

Welcome to the Ohio EPA Radiological Safety Program

The radiological program at Ohio EPA is part of the Emergency Response Unit of the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization. The primary responsibility is to provide Ohio EPA staff with radiological technical advice and to provide the Ohio Utility Radiological Safety Board (URSB) with environmental expertise.

Ohio EPA maintains a team of emergency responders who go to the state and county emergency operations centers to staff technical advisory and support positions. These people have trained in radiation protection for the public and environmental health issues that would result from a nuclear plant accident. In addition, Ohio EPA maintains a Radiation Assessment Team (RAT) that takes environmental samples.
