Water Resource Restoration Sponsor Program Awards More Than $165 Million in 16 Years

Created in 2000, the Water Resource Restoration Sponsor Program (WRRSP) uses interest monies from Water Control Pollution Loan Fund (WPCLF) sponsor projects to fund preservation and restoration of high-quality water resources. Throughout Ohio, more than $165 million has been awarded for projects in 30 counties and 69 watersheds.

WRRSP Open House a Success

On Dec. 6, 2016, DEFA hosted a well-attended gathering of Water Resource Restoration Sponsor Program (WRRSP) stakeholders, including project sponsors, consultants, city and regional park district representatives, SWCD offices, land conservancies and ODNR.

The Water Resource Restoration Sponsor Program (WRRSP) – Protects Turkey Creek Estuary

The Water Resource Restoration Sponsor Program (WRRSP) was created to help counter the loss of ecological function and biological diversity of Ohio’s water resources. Through the program, Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) borrowers/sponsors can choose to divert a portion of their loan’s estimated interest payment and instead use the money to implement one or more qualifying WRRSP projects.

Akron Waterways Renewed — With DEFA’s Help

Supported by loans from Ohio EPA’s Division of Environmental and Financial Assistance, Akron is tackling the challenging, decades-long route that was mapped in its Combined Sewer Overflow Long-Term Control Plan and a 2009 federal Consent Decree.
