Ohio EPA Issues Industrial Storm Water General Permit

Ohio EPA’s NPDES Industrial Water Storm Water General Permit was issued on May 8, 2017 and becomes effective on June 1, 2017. This is the sixth generation of this general permit and will afford coverage to a majority of facilities throughout Ohio that need NPDES permit coverage to discharge storm water.

The permit identifies who can be covered, how an entity obtains coverage, and how a permittee terminates coverage. It also contains requirements for permittees to develop and implement a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWP3) to minimize or eliminate the potential for contamination of storm water by industrial activities.

The permit includes reporting requirements for all facilities and contains analytical monitoring requirements for most facilities covered. The final permit and associated documents are at epa.ohio.gov/dsw/permits/GP_IndustrialStormWater.aspx. Questions about the permit may be directed to Jason Fyffe at Jason.Fyffe@epa.ohio.gov or (614) 728-1793.
