Ground Water Rules and Regulations |
Ground water rules/regulations primarily are incorporated into the chapters of the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) and/or the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) that pertain to various pollution sources. The DDAGW is involved in ground water protection issues state-wide. However, all ground water regulations except the Underground Injection Control Program are implemented and enforced by divisions other than DDAGW. The following is a list of Ohio EPA divisions that may be contacted based upon their regulatory authority:
- Division of Emergency and Remedial Response - Unregulated hazardous waste sites and spills
- Division of Hazardous Waste Management - Regulated hazardous waste facilities
- Division of Solid and Infectious Waste Management - Regulated solid and/or infectious waste
- Division of Surface Water - Wastewater
Rules for Class I, IV, and V underground injection control wells, however, are a distinct set of rules in Chapter 3745-34 of the OAC. The regulatory authority for these rules is the DDAGW Underground Injection Control Section. Discharge of wastes and other fluids into a Class I, IV, or V injection well is regulated by this program.
Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program
The rules in this electronic version of Chapter 3745-34 of the OAC constitute the underground injection control rules for Ohio Class I, Class IV, and Class V injection wells. These rules on paper format are published in copies of the OAC, which are available at many Ohio libraries or can be purchased from:
Ohio EPA Legal Records Section P.O. Box 1049 Columbus, OH 43216-1049
or Telephone: 614.644.2115
We have tried to make this printing agree with the official version of Chapter 3745-34 of the OAC. However, this printing is still likely to include some mis-prints. There are also some known errors in the official OAC rules which are copied here. We expect to correct these errors in the next revision of the rules. If you notice any parts of our rules which appear to be in error, please call these possible errors to our attention, preferably by sending a note to:
