Accessing Ground Water Quality Data - Summarized Data

Clean Water Act Section 305(b) - Report on Ground Water Quality

Section 305(b) of the Federal Clean Water Act established a process for states to report on the quality of the nation's ground water and surface water resources to U. S. EPA. Ohio EPA Division of Drinking and Ground Waters has used the Ground Water chapter of the 305(b) reports as an opportunity to expand our analysis of the available ground water quality data to characterize the water quality of the major aquifers types in Ohio. The Ground Water chapters of the recent reports are available below in PDF format.

Note: No report was done in 2004.

Accessing Ground Water Quality Data - Raw Data

Download Raw Data from Ohio EPA

Downloads of the complete Ambient Ground Water database for both inorganic and organic ground water data may be accessed through the links below. Two data formats for each dataset are provided: .xlsx (Microsoft Open Office XML) and .csv (comma-separated values). The .xlsx format was chosen because it lacks the worksheet size limits of earlier Excel versions. The .csv is a standard text format which can be imported to wide variety of software products. Readers needing alternative formats are encouraged to direct email requests to michael.slattery@epa.state.oh.us.

Download Raw Data from USEPA (STORET)

Ohio's ground water monitoring data are available on the U.S. EPA's web site in Modernized STORET (STORage and RETrieval). Many organizations used STORET as their primary tool for storing environmental information including biological, chemical and physical data for ground water, surface water, air and soils. However, U.S. EPA is no longer supporting STORET.

Data available from the STORET web site (http://www.epa.gov/storet/dw_home.html) can be selected by geographic areas (state/county, latitude/longitude or watershed), by stations (facilities) or by projects. Ohio EPA's ground water monitoring data are housed under the Ohio EPA, Division of Drinking and Ground Waters Organization ID. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the Organization ID = 21OHDGW. All ground water data are located in the Ambient Ground Water Monitoring Program project. Selected data can be downloaded in a tilde (~) delimited text file.
