Arsenic in Ohio's Ground Water
Public Water System Wells

Arsenic in public water suppliesIn Ohio, there are approximately 2,000 public water systems (PWSs) that are required to monitor for arsenic. These systems include community systems, such as cities and mobile home parks, and nontransient noncommunity systems, such as schools and large businesses. Transient noncommunity systems, such as parks, churches, and restaurants, are not required to monitor for arsenic.

Compliance with the arsenic MCL (10 ug/L) is determined by averaging quarterly arsenic results over a one year period. When the annual average concentration exceeds the MCL, the PWS must notify its customers, as well as take steps to come into compliance as quickly as possible.
