Q:  What should we do if a security breach happens at our water system?

A:  Notify the police and your Ohio EPA District Office immediately. 


Q:  How can a Public Water System make itself more secure?

A: 

  1. Refer to guidance booklet for very small systems on the Security Page.
  2. Address the vulnerable areas of your water plant and distribution system.
  3. Use the security references on this page.
  4. Create a plan for security implementations.
  5. Contact the Division of Drinking & Ground Waters at Ohio EPA & others for support.

Q:  Where can I get funding for new security measures?

A:  

  1. Make security a part of your system’s annual budget.
  2. Solicit your county’s Emergency Management Agency and/or Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) to fund your security projects.
  3. Take Advantage of the Ohio EPA's Drinking Water Assistance Fund Program to attain a low interest loan for security improvements.
