Emission Reduction Credit (ERC) Banking System

Overview

Ohio EPA established an ERC Banking System to track the deposit and withdrawal of ERCs and the generation, transfer and use of ERCs for nitrogen oxides (NOx), volatile organic compound (VOC), sulfur dioxide (SO2), fine particulate matter (PM2.5), carbon monoxide (CO) and lead (Pb) in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) Chapter 3745-111. ERCs may be deposited as un-verified ERCs or verified ERCs. Only verified ERCs will receive a Certificate ID and may be transferred under this program.

Ohio EPA maintains a list of available verified and unverified ERCs by county, by pollutant and the contact information for the owner of ERCs. The bank will be updated at the end of each month, at a minimum. Ohio EPA is not be involved in the buying and selling of ERCs; therefore, companies or organizations interested in purchasing ERCs must contact the owners of the ERCs in order to negotiate terms and conditions surrounding the sale or transfer of ERCs.

Note: Ohio EPA is currently reviewing multiple requests for posting ERCs from various shutdown sources. Once this review process is complete, the ERCs will be posted on this site. In the mean time, if you are in need of ERCs, please contact Sudhir Singhal at (614) 644-3684.
