Water Quality Unit
The Water Quality Unit performs field investigations on the physical, chemical, and biological condition of water bodies by discharge sampling and monitoring of the aquatic environment, in order to assess the maintenance of Ohio Water Quality Standards. This Unit also provides technical assistance on storm water and nonpoint source issues that may potentially affect the quality of surface water. Jeff Bohne is the Supervisor, who is assisted by Paul Vandermeer and Jeff Lewis with monitoring and assessment projects. Harry Kallipolitis and Greg Sanders conduct the review of storm water controls, and for implementation of industrial and construction site storm water management plans, and Vince Mazeika works with soil/water conservation groups to reduce the effect of nonpoint sources, and to encourage the funding of streambank protection projects.
Permits Unit
The Permits Unit reviews Applications for Permits To Install (PTIs) of wastewater treatment facilities and NPDES (discharge) Permits. Anthony Hanes is the Supervisor, who is assisted by personnel according to county assignment listed below. They can answer questions regarding site investigations for new facilities and information about fees for PTIs, NPDES Permits, General Permits, and Sludge Management Plans.
Field Operations Unit
The Field Operations Unit inspects wastewater treatment plants (WWTPS), reviews the operation reports from WWTPS and investigates complaints regarding malfunctioning WWTPS and water quality standards violations. Erin Sherer is the Supervisor, who is assisted by personnel listed in the table below. Greg Sanders is the Pretreatment Coordinator, whose responsibilities include industrial dischargers to municipal sewerage systems.
Sheree Gossett-Johnson coordinates implementation of House Bill 110 contracts with local health departments (LHD)s inspecting small WWTPS. Mike Sapp reviews Applications for Tax Exemption Certifications for industrial facilities and for Pretreatment PTIs. Larry Korecko coordinates "public information" requests for review of CDO/DSW files.
