January 20, 2017 Oakwood Middle School to Represent Ohio at the National Future City Competition in Washington D.C.
Teams from 16 Ohio middle schools competed with custom built models of their future cities complete with moving parts, lights, mirrors, four-sided custom models and many more features in Ohio’s regional DiscoverE Future City Competition, held Jan. 14, 2017, at Columbus State Community College.

Approximately 800 junior high students will reduce their cafeteria waste by as much as 35 percent with help from a $16,053 Ohio EPA Education grant to Boardman Glenwood Junior High School. Students will sort their food waste following lunch – placing compostable waste in an EarthTub composting system.

November 10, 2016 Ohio EPA Requests Public Input on Volkswagen Settlement
Ohio EPA is asking the public to weigh-in on a plan that will use Ohio’s portion of the Volkswagen consent decree/settlement to offset the effects of diesel emissions. The state’s share of the settlement dollars is anticipated to be $71.4 million over 10 years, and will be directed toward grants and other efforts that can produce the greatest air quality benefits such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission reductions, reduced public exposure to the pollutants in diesel exhaust and the promotion of clean vehicle technologies.
October 21, 2016 Ohio EPA Awards $5,000 Environmental Education Grant to Cuyahoga County Organization
Kamm’s Corners Development Corporation in Cleveland will educate businesses and area residents about how they can use landscaping to help control storm water runoff with help from a $5,000 Ohio EPA grant. The community will retrofit existing green infrastructure with non-edible, perennial plants that will be serve two purposes – storm water control and public programming craft demonstrations.
October 21, 2016 Ohio EPA Awards Environmental Education Grant to Lucas County Organization
Toledo Botanical Garden will use a $1,282 grant from Ohio EPA to host a one-day, six-hour training for 25 elementary school teachers that will provide hands-on lessons about pollution in waterways and how to manage urban runoff.
October 20, 2016 Ohio EPA Awards $800 Environmental Education Grant to Hardin County Organization
Blanchard River Watershed Partnership will take a “snapshot” sample of the Blanchard River Watershed using funding from an Ohio EPA grant to Ohio Northern. The $800 Ohio Environmental Education Fund grant will support water chemistry sampling at several locations in the watershed and produce a “grade card” brochure to be distributed to the public.
