Ohio EPA Requests Comments on Big Darby Water Quality Evaluation
Ohio EPA is accepting public comments until Sept. 29, 2017, on a draft report which summarizes findings from a 2014 survey of the biological, chemical and physical properties of the Big Darby watershed.

State of Ohio Releases Plan to Reduce Nutrients in Lake Erie Basin
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission and the State of Ohio have released a draft Ohio Domestic Action Plan to reduce phosphorus entering Lake Erie under the binational Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement with a goal of reducing phosphorus loading to Lake Erie by 40 percent by 2025. The Commission will host two public meetings on Sept. 12 and 13, 2017, to provide information about the draft plan.

Upper Sandusky Eliminating Sewer Overflows; Receives Financing from Ohio EPA
Upper Sandusky is receiving an interest-free loan from Ohio EPA to plan an upgrade to its wastewater treatment plant to treat additional wet weather flows and eliminate discharges of sanitary sewage mixed with storm water. The city’s project is one of 25 projects statewide that received funding in July, totaling $475 million, a one-month record for the loan programs.

A request to adjust the mercury levels allowed in the Monroeville wastewater discharge permit will be the topic of a Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, Ohio EPA public meeting. An information session will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a public hearing at the Huron River Joint Fire District station, 155 Monroe St., Monroeville.

Ohio EPA Assists City of Akron with Sewer Improvements
Ohio EPA is providing six loans to the City of Akron for continued upgrades to the city’s sewer system. The loans, totaling more than $51 million, will help the city achieve its goal of dramatically reducing the number of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) that release to the local waterways during periods of heavy precipitation.

Ohio EPA Assists Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District With Kingsbury Run Sewer Improvements
Ohio EPA is providing a $4,774,375 loan to the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) to fund upgrades to the Kingsbury Run sewer collection system. Kingsbury Run serves as a drainage outlet for the central portion of Cleveland, east of the Cuyahoga River, and the west end of Shaker Heights.

Ohio EPA is providing a $532,464 loan to the village of Apple Creek to extend sanitary sewers to Waynedale High School on Dover Road. The loan, along with a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission, will cover the entire cost of the project.
