Ohio EPA is accepting public comments on a draft air pollution control permit-to-install for the Avon Lake Power Plant. The modified draft permit that requires an update to allow the facility to meet U.S. EPA’s more stringent emissions requirements for the 1-hour sulfur dioxide (SO2) standard, set by U.S. EPA in 2010.
November 10, 2016 Ohio EPA Requests Public Input on Volkswagen Settlement
Ohio EPA is asking the public to weigh-in on a plan that will use Ohio’s portion of the Volkswagen consent decree/settlement to offset the effects of diesel emissions. The state’s share of the settlement dollars is anticipated to be $71.4 million over 10 years, and will be directed toward grants and other efforts that can produce the greatest air quality benefits such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission reductions, reduced public exposure to the pollutants in diesel exhaust and the promotion of clean vehicle technologies.

Ohio EPA has approved a $69.5 million low-interest loan to the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) to aid in constructing combined sewer overflow storage tunnels. The Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) project will help bring NEORSD in compliance and improve the water quality of Lake Erie.
October 26, 2016 Wintersville to Improve Wastewater Treatment; Receiving Financing from Ohio EPA
Wintersville has received a $420,000 low-interest loan from Ohio EPA’s Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) to conduct a Sewer System Evaluation Survey (SSES). This study will help Wintersville identify (so that the village can subsequently eliminate) points at which sanitary sewers and storm water combine. As a result, the system will have fewer overflows into area streams. The improvement in water quality will help both public health and the environment.
