Ohio EPA Postpones Public Meeting Regarding Former Kilgore Manufacturing Property
The previously scheduled July 24, 2017, meeting at the Center for Equine Science to discuss cleanup plans at the former Kilgore Manufacturing Property, 400 N. Spring Road, Westerville, has been cancelled by Ohio EPA. The information session and public hearing will be rescheduled (date to be determined).

Ohio EPA Announces First Transaction Via Ohio Materials Marketplace
Ohio EPA Director Craig W. Butler today announced the first transaction through a new online service whereby Ohio businesses, not-for-profits and government organizations can advertise and acquire potentially useful products and materials that might otherwise be destined for disposal in landfills. Columbus based Weisenbach Recycled Products posted the availability of 4.68 tons of polypropylene (plastic bottle caps) to the Ohio Materials Marketplace (OMM) in May. Representatives from Heath based Polymer Technologies Inc. saw the posting and identified the material as useful for producing polypropylene pellets, which can then be sold on the open market for the manufacture of common household products. Ohio EPA staff facilitated the connection between the two companies.

Columbus residents interested in urban forestry can train to become neighborhood tree stewards thanks to a $39,791 grant from the Ohio Environmental Education Fund (OEEF). The grant was awarded to Green Columbus – one of eight Ohio communities and organizations to receive a total of $239,941 to support environmental education programs.

More than 1,100 people would see a pollinator garden and its associated educational material annually with help from a $5,000 Ohio EPA Education grant to the Licking County Health Department. The five-acre garden and its associated signage will be at the health department’s 20-acre campus.

More than 10,000 Delaware-area residents will have an opportunity to learn about watersheds with help from a $4,800 Ohio EPA Education grant to the Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District. The grant will fund a state-of-the-art topographic 3-D map design station to help teach students about topographic maps and landforms.

Ashville Receiving Financing from Ohio EPA for Wastewater Treatment Improvements
Ashville will improve water quality in Walnut Creek when the village constructs the sewer portion of its new wastewater treatment plant with help from a $1.064 million low-interest Ohio EPA loan. Together, the new sewers and treatment plant will help prevent the release of untreated wastewater into Walnut Creek. Past releases of untreated sewage have led to the stream being designated nonattainment for recreational uses.
