Ohio EPA Issues Final Permits to City of Warren and Patriot Water Treatment
Ohio EPA Director Scott Nally today issued final a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit renewal to the city of Warren and an additional Permit to Install (PTI) to Patriot Water Treatment LLC.
The NPDES permit for Warren is issued under the standard five-year renewal process with no effluent limitation for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). TDS will be monitored twice per week and Ohio EPA is pursuing a plan to begin regular TDS monitoring at a site on the Mahoning River before the river enters Pennsylvania. This monitoring will provide baseline data from Ohio facilities discharging TDS. The permit does not allow Warren to accept oil and gas brine water.
The PTI for Patriot approves the previous installation of large receiving tanks and allows the company to accept and treat new wastewater sources. The Patriot permit is effective immediately.
The NPDES permit for Warren takes effect on April 1, 2012, when all brine water acceptance will cease.
