Ohio EPA Accepts Comments on Draft Permits for Belmont County School’s Wastewater Project
Ohio EPA is accepting comments on a draft wastewater discharge permit and permit-to-install for the proposed Powhatan Elementary School wastewater treatment plant project at 54685 Mount Victory Rd., Powhatan Point in York Township.
Ohio EPA held an information session and public hearing on May 3, 2012, to discuss water quality impacts from the project as proposed by the Switzerland of Ohio School District (Woodsfield). The project needs permits to construct the plant to serve a new elementary/middle school and discharge treated wastewater to a tributary of Captina Creek.
If the permits are issued final, the project would result in a change from current water quality conditions. The Agency reviewed the project applications and determined that discharges would comply with Ohio's water quality standards that protect aquatic life and human health.
Ohio EPA places a high priority on public involvement and encourages citizens to become involved in the decision-making process. The public can submit written comments regarding the proposed project through July 12, 2012, to firstname.lastname@example.org or Ohio EPA-Division of Surface Water, Attention: Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, OH 43216-1049. Ohio EPA will consider those comments before issuing or denying the final permits.
Interested parties may request to be placed on a mailing list for information by writing to the same address. The permit applications and related materials are available for review at Ohio EPA’s Southeast District Office at 2195 Front St. in Logan by first calling (740) 385-8501.
